Historical and Cultural Background
Huchuy Qosqo means “Little Cusco” in Quechua, although the name is modern. The settlement is often associated with the Inca ruler Viracocha and includes terraces, stone-and-adobe buildings and a long hall known as a kallanka. Its position above the Sacred Valley demonstrates how Inca centres linked agriculture, administration and control of movement through the landscape.
