Overview

Getting to know Arequipa, its charms, its people, its food and the incomparable beauty of the Colca Canyon, has never been easier. The Colca Canyon is one of the deepest canyons in the world at 3,269 m, it is more than twice as deep as the Grand Canyon in the United States. However, the canyon’s walls are not as vertical as the ones of the Grand Canyon. The Cotahuasi Canyon nearby to the northwest is wrongly referred to as being a deeper canyon at 3,501 m; but it does not truly satisfy specifications to be a canyon.

The highest point of the Colca Canyon is at, 4,870m.

Our adventure towards some of the deepest canyons in the world will begin with the pickup from your hotel in Arequipa (city center) at 03:00 am to board our tourist transport that will take us to the town of Chivay after three hours of travel, in this town we will enjoy our delicious breakfast and then continue to the town of Yanque (3420 masl or 11220.47 fasl) where we will appreciate some typical dances and its beautiful colonial church.

We will continue in our mobility until Cruz de Condor in Chivay place from where we will have a spectacular view of the whole Canyon and where it is possible to appreciate the majestic flight of the condors.

After having appreciated the flight of the “sovereign of the andes” we will return visiting the picturesque towns of Pinchollo, Maca, the viewpoints of Antahuilque where we will be able to appreciate the terraces of Choquetico. We will also visit the thermal waters of La Calera known for its medicinal waters.

We will arrive to Chivay for lunch and then return to Arequipa, making brief stops at the viewpoint of Patapampa, in Toqra and in the National Reserve of Pampa Cañahuas where vicuñas can be appreciated in their habitat and natural state.

After the lunch, we will return to the city of Arequipa.
